It is with great regret that we must announce Denmark’s Pretty Maids will be unable to perform at Firefest 5 on Sunday Oct 26th as originally scheduled. This is no part due to either Firefest or Pretty Maids , but it is in fact the direct result of the bands original flights (booked in June 2008) being cancelled by the airline, and despite frantic efforts by both Pretty Maids management and Firefest, we have been unable to find suitable replacement flights. The following press statement informing of the routes and flights cancelled has been taken directly from the airlines web site :
"Ryanair, Europe’s leading lowest fares airline, today (1st October) announced that due to strike action at Boeing it has had to cancel 25 return flights to/from Birmingham. As a direct result of this strike, which has delayed the delivery of new aircraft, Ryanair cannot now operate flights on 21 routes to/from Birmingham between 24th and 28th October (please see below for routes affected) as originally scheduled.
Passengers who were due to travel on these cancelled services will receive a full refund from Ryanair.
Announcing the cancellations, Ryanair’s, Michael Cawley, said:
“We sincerely regret the forced cancellation of these 25 return services to/from Birmingham. However, we assure passenger that this is a temporary disruption to our schedule and we have secured an aircraft to operate all scheduled services from 29th October.
We sincerely apologise to all our passengers for the inconvenience caused by this change to our plans. I hope passengers understand that it is due to circumstances over which we have no control and I hope to see these passengers onboard one of our Birmingham services soon. ”

On the Plus side, once it became apparent Pretty Maids could not perform a frantic search began for a replacement act. Two weeks to show time is generally not the greatest time to be looking for a replacement act, but we have struck gold. H.E.A.T. the latest hard rock sensations from Sweden , currently riding high with their critically acclaimed self titled debut album have accepted our invitation to play . Following a barrage of e mails and phone calls on Saturday morning , Eric Rivers anjd Kieran Dargan worked out the finer points and H.E.A.T. will now slot into the Sunday line up for FF5.
"We were planning on playing at Firefest 2009, so getting the chance to play this year is pretty damn awesome!" says guitar played Eric Rivers.
Hey didn’t anybody tell Eric that FF5 was the last one?? Obviously not.
The easier option for Firefest would have been not to replace Pretty Maids, but we felt that would not have been right. We constantly try and offer great value for money, so we hope with the addition of HEAT we have once again shown our commitment to this genre of music and the fans that support it. That aside they are a damn fine band and their debut album is on heavy rotation among all the Firefest crew.
