I think Narnialady would like this as it's Alan Davies writing about his childhood, teen years and early twenties and how his music, TV, film and other idols of the time figured!
He was very keen on The Blues Brothers film having sported a t-shirt with a slogan I notice on one of this station's jingles. He had a toga party in his parents' garage in tribute to the toga party scene in Animal House.
As regards his footballing heroes, I skipped a lot of that. But I did enjoy the bits where he talked about how his TV tastes diverged from his father's when the Young Ones was first screened and so on.
His mum died when he was very young, and I quite sympathised when he was describing the series 'Rhoda' that was on in the 70's. He wasn't sure whether to think of Valerie Harper, in the lead role, as a mother figure or a girlfriend figure.
I lost my dad when I was 14, and I could see a comparison in my own looking for a father/elder brother figure since.

This bppk has been published in paperback under the title 'Alan Davies's Teenage Revolution' as it was the inspiration for the Channel 4 series of that name.
