My sister, who's a huge fan of Hugh Jackman, lent this for Mum and I to watch on Saturday night.
It was the usual self-indulgent Baz Lurhman garbage, but this time applied to what seemed to be a hybrid of The African Queen and Romancing The Stone. Nicole Kidman's slaughtering of 'Over The Rainbow', during her explanation of The Wizard of Oz to the little half-caste boy, made Cheryl Cole seem like suitable Karnataka material!
And the use of Elgar's 'Nimrod' at the end made me think of The Enid rather than the half-caste boy getting back with his grandad.

Hmm, I feared as much. I saw a short piece about it on TV before it was released, featuring an interview with Baz Luhrman (or is it Lurhman? I don't know!). It seemed like BL had thrown everything into it, including the kitchen sink, and it would either end up being madly brilliant or a big pile of crap. After it was released I heard nothing more about it and suspected what you've just confirmed, i.e. it went down the big pile of crap route. Thanks - you've saved me a couple of quid and probably more than a couple of hours (I presume it's looooong).

YES! It's bloody long! I have never rated Nicole Kidman as an actress.
