Now firmly established as the biggest rock event of the year, providing the best performances of the broadest range of contemporary and newest rock music, Download, is for its fourth year set to shake the foundations of Donington Park. With the massive success of adding a third day last year, organisers were spurred on to continue a three-day extravaganza and Download 2006 will take place on June 9, 10 and 11.
Eager to get this year’s event on sale rather than waiting for all the bands to be confirmed, this year’s tickets will now be available from Friday 3 February. This is just the beginning for Download 2006, and the very first bands to confirm their appearance at Download 2006 are The Prodigy, Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine. The extensive list of the other bands that makes this festival the must see event of each year will be announced the moment they are confirmed, providing the freshest information as and when it happens.
Looking forward to ripping it up at this year’s Download Festival for the very first time, The Prodigy are undoubtedly one of the best live acts to come out of the UK. Blending euphoric dance beats with demonic guitar riffs, their innovative style has given them an awesome reputation to really bring the punk rock spirit alive. Bringing together the inimitable music mastery of Liam Howlett, the unnerving presence of Maxim and the manic schizoid performance of Keith Flint, The Prodigy are destined to be one of the weekend’s main highlights.
Trivium return to tread the hallowed boards at Donington Park once again, having opened up the Main Stage in 2005 to nearly 40,000 fans. Bursting out of their native Florida metal scene to take the UK by storm over the last 12 months, their music takes in influence and sounds from metalcore, thrash and progressive metal. Matt Heafy, Travis Smith, Corey Beaulieu and Paulo Gregoletto will be looking to cement their reputation and aim even higher for 2006! Matt Heafy relishes thoughts of last years event: "It was a rainy, dreary, grey, chilly morning in jolly old England last June at Donington Park when I remember trying to run in place to shake off some nerves and warm up before our bumped-up-from-third-stage-to-main-stage Download show. The doors weren't open yet, and goddamn was that the biggest empty field of my life. I was nervous. But when those doors opened, Trivium was witness to a new beginning – 40,000 screaming, moshing fans filled into a sea of bodies. Download 2005 was the turning point of our career, and after that show, people knew who we are and what we are planning to do... take over this world.
To be part of this incredible festival again this year is an honour. Last year it made Trivium a much bigger band and I can only imagine what the hell this year holds for us. One thing is certain, it draws us closer to our ultimate goal."
Joining these magnificent forces at Download 2006 will be Welsh hot-shots Bullet For My Valentine. Comprising of Matthew ‘Matt’ Tuck, Michael ‘Padge’ Padget, Michael ‘Moose’ Thomas and Jason ‘Jay’ James, Bullet For My Valentine’s high voltage riff*ge and frantic metal melodies has meant their most crazy twelve months so far in their career, and the boys will definitely be looking to reward their fans with a mind-blowing, body-shaking performance at the UK’s biggest and best rock festival. Matt Tuck proclaimed: “Download last year was a very cool experience as the year before we played it as an unsigned band with no release. It was great to go back and play to so many people and hear them singing our songs back to us. It was a humbling experience and a show I will never forget.
Looking forward to playing it again this year, higher up on the main stage this time hopefully as we are representing British metal. Can't wait to hear the full line up.”
Whilst last year’s Download witnessed its biggest audience so far with over 80,000 people watching more than 100 bands during the whole weekend across four stages, Download 2006 will once again prove itself as the ultimate rock experience with even more new and exciting changes.
Festival director Stuart Galbraith is more excited by this year’s Download than ever before. “Download 2006 just keeps moving forward, and this innovative festival experience will not only continue to feature at least three stages, cinema’s, Download internet café’s, markets, performance art and welcoming back the Snickers Bowl with all the best within the skate world, but also we have strived to make this the ultimate and most modern festival ever,” explains Stuart “This years experience will be more that just a festival, having added additional camping fields, in a hope to accommodate everyone, the campsites will now be opening from midday on Wednesday 7 June with 24 hour facilities through to Monday 12 June. This is no longer just a festival, it is a round-the-clock live music holiday.”
