Right, I will unashamedly say from the start that I am not a Vixen fan, I went to see House of Lords
JB`s in Dudley...hmmm not where I thought it was and smaller than I thought it would be. But nevertheless a nice little venue.
Support was from a band called Jack Viper and although they came from London it was clear that they lived for the LA sleazey vibe. All the tunes were very samey. Not really my cup of tea as I watched the guitarist push his shades back for the 100th time while the lead singer moved across the stage like a slow motion Axl Rose. Handy fashion tip, if you`re going to wear hipsters, best not to wear the "I Love Rock" stripy boxers
House of Lords...well just bloomin marvellous, from the opening bars of Sahara the new line up were superb. James interacted with the crowd much more at JB`s than at Camden and Nick thought the sound quality was better too as the guitar was higher in the mix. Chris (formerly bassist with JSS) also sounded good on backing vocals.
A good mix of old and new tracks with Rock Bottom and S.O.S. In America going down really well. Unfortunately towards the end of the set technical problems lead to impromptu bass and guitar solos before James Christian had to admit that time had beaten them.
At Camden it appeared the techincal gremlins had been sorted and they played for about an hour. I preferred the set list here although the start of These Are The Times did seem to wander away from the original somewhat. Despite that another cracking performance from Mr Christian and Co. Cant wait for Crewe next week.
