SynopsisA fast-moving and action-packed World-War-II drama, BLACK BOOK has all the high production values and slickness of Verhoeven’s Hollywood movies with the added intelligence of his earlier European films. Set in German-occupied Holland toward the end of the War, the film follows the fortunes of Rachel (van Houten), a young Jewish woman, whose attempts to escape the Nazis lead her into Resistance work before she embarks on an affair with a German Officer. Epic in scale, the film excels in capturing the war action while remaining a drama capable of pulling emotional punches.I'd seen a trailer for this film a couple of weeks ago and thought it looked good, and it was . Subtitles throughout again as it was all in German and Dutch, but that didn't detract from it at all, a really good story, very thought provoking and rather disturbing at times. Not really what I'd call a 'jolly' film, but well worth seeing IMHO I think it was over 2 hours long but it didn't seem it, full of action and didn't lose the pace at any stage at all. A few bits of stocking/suspender eye candy moments for the guys, and a few boobies too ;D The certificate was a 15, and personally I was surprised at that. Then again, I dunno if it was '18' enough to be erm............an '18' ;D Go and see it if it's on near you! (if it's your thang of course LOL) ;D
