If you used to go to gigs at Hammersmith Odeon, and for whatever reason (age, drink etc.) you can't remember all the finer details of who you saw, and who supported them, try this website www.raysgigs.com and it will all come flooding back to you!!

Nice one Alison! Blimey, what a great reference source. Saw Steve Hackett there once. A lot of work has gone into that site. Makes me wish I'd kept all my gig-tickets and logged the gigs for those moments when someone asks where you've seen bands play. All takes time though and at the moment my CD collection list is about two years out of date! I won't even mention my alphabetical cornflake collection ... (darn too late)... ;D

the catalogue I have is an Ann Summers one. But all the pages are stuck together now. I spilt glue on it accidently when I was fixing my model car when it's left rear wheel axle broke. It was a serious Colin moment

(darn too late)... ;D Yeah I have the same problem with the cornflakes....Don't you find you have an awful lot of them filed under "C"? I'll grant that Raysgigs is a bit anorak-ish, but it was good to be able to jog the old grey matter! I have discovered there are loads of bands I didn't know I'd seen -support bands that is!

It was a serious Colin moment What's one of them then? Is it the same as a Nigel moment? ;D

It is fantastic that you have a cornflake collection too Alison and understand the problem with alphabetically filing the blighters! I reckon it is more popular than people would have us believe! Maybe we can help complete each other's set, I'll send a list of my "cereal numbers"

I agree with you Alison, that it is an added bonus of seeing who the support acts were as sometimes there were some really good ones. Like you say, you never always got to find out who they were, many used to come on, do their set right through if they were lucky as some fans were pretty mean, and the band would often be shunted off stage by the headline-act roadies before they had chance to unplug! I've certainly discovered some superb bands who were support slots and also missed the name of some who I would have liked to have checked out. It is also interesting to discover that some of these support bands had members who later formed other bands who became famous and, like you say, you may then discover that you saw this star or band without realising who they were at the time. I say power to people who set up sites like www.raysgigs.com and anyone who takes the effort to record all these facts and share them for free. It means we don't lose the knowledge and can dip in to satisfy our curiosity if we want to, be it for nostalgic or research reasons. That's why I think the ARfm playlists are so handy, I always follow up on a great band I've heard on the radio if I can.

Hi Alison, I'm so impressed with your knowledge, this is incredible! As you know the cornflake collector's market was swamped with a ton of burnt cornflakes (after the 1990 fire) which are often mistaken by people who don't know as much as us two, for the much rarer 1974 spotted-black variety. You can tell the 1974 ones by the distinct green mould around the edges. I don't suppose you collect packets of Polo's too? I've got some in ' mint' condition from 1968 to 1997. I did have more up-to- date ones but the missus had been taking them to work and eating them not realising they were from my collection. (or so she said) Oops time for my medication, (Boatman gets beer from fridge).

[/quote] Very interesting Boatman...Of course you will be aware that some of the green edged specimens are actually flood damaged stock from the warehouse flood at Kelloggs in 1980. They can be distinguished from the ones you mention in that the black spots are not quite so pronounced, if present at all. I don't collect polo mints...I mean what would be the point They all look the same.. Time to put on my nice white jacket...the one with the buckles and long sleeves.. ;D

You know, you really shouldn't store your collection in the kitchen -it's just asking for trouble really! Psst....Just between you and me....I have recently started a shreddies collection too!
