Just got back from seeing this and I have to say it's bloody good (IMHO) *Miles* better than the book, which I thought was by far the weakest of the HP books, and lots of really good special effects. Thoroughly enjoyed it and if you like the Harry Potter stuff you should like this. My youngest son who is 12 was a bit confused tho, but then again, he's not read any of the books since Chamber of Secrets (and I guess a lot has happened since then) altho he's enjoyed all the films. He said there wasn't enough 'action' - dunno, I disagree. I'll be interested to know what others think of it if anyone else is going to see it.

I'll probably wait until this comes out to rent, I've seen all the Harry Potter films, they are ok....nowt special. The films have always failed to generate much excitement and interest from me. The books are probably better, but I've never been interested enough to read them, maybe the were over hyped? or the first couple of films destroyed my interest to read them i dunno. Bit like The Da Vinci code, the amount of people who said you have to read this was unbelievable, i saw the film and I'm so glad i didn't waste my time reading the book what a pile of shite! yeah the book may have been better......it needed to be a lot better! The Best thing about the Harry Potter films is the special effects, these films do feel like "No Expense Spared". Also a great thing that the films are kept British and use all British actors a great thing for the British film industry. little useless nugget of information here Geraldine Somerville plays Harry's Mom, I had a huge crush on her when she was in "Cracker" with Robbie Coltrane, she played DS Jane 'Panhandle' Penhaligon. Now if she had a bigger part in the Potter movies i might go to cinema to see it.
Great news to hear that Terry Pratchett's novel's "The Colour Of Magic" & "The Light Fantastic" are been made into films by the same company as made "The Hogfather" only problem is i think Pratchett's humour fails to translate well to the screen but still looking forward to it.
I'd rather a film be made of one of David Gemmell's books, i was hoping after his untimely death last year something may come to light but not looking likely. I think "Legend" or "Wolf In Shadow" would make excellent films, obviously not for kids, but they would make great action/fantasy films. I'd be more excited about this than weather Harry loses his virginity before dying in the last book!

I read The Da Vinci Code ages before the film came out and was dead excited when I heard there was gonna be a film of it. I never got around to seeing it at the cinema and watched it on DVD a couple of months ago. What a complete pile of poo - very disappointing! The book was infinitely better. But Angels & Demons is better than The Da Vinci Code, and apparently they're making a film of that Hope it translates better onto the big screen than the other one did.

Neither The Da Vinci Code or any of the Harry Potter books have appealed to me at all. Lots of people have said "You must read them" but it never works that way for me. I pick up a book and flick through it and it has to *grab* me, I have to really, really, want to read it.

I do read a lot but I'm really picky about what i'll choose to read, thats why i never got round to Da Vinci code and now i've seen the film.....theirs fat chance! I tend to only read fantasy books David Gemmell, Raymond E Feist, Terry Brooks, Robin Hobb and the greatest author of all time Terry Pratchett! the only other type of book i'll read is *cough*westerns* cough*, I've got Larry McMurtys "Boones Lick" to read, mainly got this cause the Goddess that is Julianne Moore is meant to be starring in the film version of this......with Tom Hanks Woody

At least I'll get next weekend all to myself, as Jacqui has the new HP book pre-ordered, and it should arrive Saturday morning Although knowing Jacqui, she'll have finished it by Saturday evening

Yes I know I'm a bit behind but I went to see this today with my 17 year old niece. I absolutely love the Harry Potter stories and find them all fascinating once I start reading. The films have all been really good too though this latest one seemed to have pulled out all the stops with the special effects etc!! Brilliant stuff ;D
I am still waiting for my niece to finish the latest book so I can borrow it from her!!! (well I did pay for her cinema ticket!)
Hope everyone is well,
Lynn
