Title:
BEOWULF - 3D BY REAL D
SYNOPSIS
Written by Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman, Beowulf is based on the Old English epic poem of the same name. Set in a magical era, with groundbreaking visual effects, it chronicles the exploits of Beowulf (Ray Winstone), a Scandinavian hero who sets out to save the Danes from the monster Grendel (Crispin Glover), on behalf of King Hrothgar. Though at first Grendel seems invincible, Beowulf eventually manages to defeat him in a desperate battle to the death. In return for this act he gains great fame, wealth and power and succeeds the throne. However, Grendel's ruthlessly seductive mother (Angelina Jolie), devastated by her son's violent demise at the hands of Beowulf, sets out in search of revenge.
Director: Robert Zemeckis Starring: Angelina Jolie Ray Winstone Anthony Hopkins Robin Wright Crispin Glover Alison Lohman John Malkovich Length: 114min
Saw this Monday evening having got free tix for the preview screening at my local cinema. I wasn't sure I would like it as I'm not really a fan of CGI/animated stuff, but I have to report it was *excellent*. Really really enjoyed it, the 3D effect was great, altho to all us spec wearers it's not entirely easy trying to fit 3D specs over your normal bins! ;D That said, they are now in a snazzy plastic Clarke Kent stylee as opposed to those red/blue cardboard numbers they used to give you! Great special effects tho. The certificate is a 12A, which I thought was perhaps a bit liberal, I'd have thought a 15 was more suitable due to the violence (too much eyeball action for me - bleurgh! LOL), and sexual references ;D Then again maybe I'm just a bit of a prude
I thoroughly recommend this one if you love your legends, monsters, and good fights with limbs flying everywhere ;D Make sure you see the 3D version tho!
