Hi All, Right then, it is that time of the year, (yes already!)... The Tea Lady is moaning about not being able to find birthday cards amongst the Chris.. (sorry, "C" word) cards and decorations So it must be time to start thinking about the ARfm Soundscapes Long Track of the Year! ;D OK this year's 'rules'... Track must be: From an album released in 2008 Over 8 minutes long (yes I've changed my mind again!) Not a 'live extended remix' or suchlike! Proggy/electronic To make life easier, nominations can be left on this 'ere thread (Boatman! ) Or you can email them to me at paulbaker@arfm.co.uk First three tracks will be played on Sunday 02 November and the usual 'polls' will appear on the message board, the winner of each 'round' going forward to the final 'vote'... ohhh errr missus! Toodle pip & ta ta. Paul

1. Glass Shadows by Mostly Autumn (cinematic lyrics, evocative vocals and imaginative music - progtastic!) 2. The Trial by Orenda (Something a little heavier here, this is France's answer to Dream Theater, not arf!) 3. Hollins by Cathedral (From the USA). This band amazingly made just one album "Stained Glass Windows" in 1978 before disbanding due to the attitude of the fashion-driven media. Now they are back 30 years later with a superb album called The Bridge with some superb mellotron, electric guitar and interesting lyrics with vocals in the sounding a little like Greg Lake in places. This Court-era King Crimson flirting with early Yes and Genesis influences but with a sound that is definitely Cathedral. It is one of those albums that takes about ten listens before it clicks in, but when it does; wow!

I've not heard that many long tracks this year that have stuck in the memory but here goes with two I have really enjoyed:
1. The Long Fianchetto - Thieves' Kitchen (21:01) (From 'The Water Road') An awesome epic that I really enjoyed hearing live at Summer's End. 2. Wish - Goat (10:16) (From 'Special Agent') This one might be a bit challenging for some but impressive stuff nevertheless. First played on ARfm by me, I think.

Hi Paul,
Well, I may be able to get you a copy of the Goat track...
Also, I forgot a track: Kites (8:31) – Nosound (From 'Lightdark')
Perhaps my favourite track off the new Nosound album.
Best wishes, Ian
