hi Alison, Thanks for this... ;D Think Boatman had mentioned it but shows that the 'attitude' on this board is just the best in that you posted the info, even tho it might not be your personal fav kind of music. Now I remember why I love working with ARfm so much! ;D Have a great Christmas & a Simply Marvelous New Year. Paul

Sadly the two 'Prog Rock' nights on BBC 3 & 4 were the same old ballcocks! Once more the Bloated Broadcasting Company manage to wheel out the only prog bands ever to have existed... Floyd, ELP, Yes & Genesis.... oh there were brief mentions of Egg, Soft Machine, Caravan & Focus..which does make a bit of a change I suppose. Having missed the beginning, I gave up after an hour of the Friday offering, or what seemed like an hour... it was about 11pm when I gave up... The program was long winded, up its own rear end and kept repeating itself... ummm sound familiar... (behave Mr B)... What really finished me was when they started talking about.. wait for it... 1990-2008.. and guess what it was still Floyd, ELP and bloody Yes... errrr excuse me.. but I think there are one or two modern bands about... IQ, Porcupine Tree, Marillion... for starters plus all of the 'smaller'... (no offence to them) bands who keep the music alive.... As for Saturday.... not saying the documentary was old but it was voiced by the late great Tommy Vance and featured the wonderful Mr John Peel, (also sadly departed of course!). Oh and the 'modern' Prog Scene according to the BBC consists of a bloody Genesis Tribute band...in Canada/North America. Think I might do a Noel Edmonds and tell 'em where to stick the bloody license fee... However, I may have thrown my remote control out of my pram a bit early.... did any one else watch it... And before you ask, no I didn't watch the 2354th repeat of ELP on the Old Grey Whistle Test! Mutter, mumble, grumble.... I'll get me coat. Grumpy Prog Paul

I swear the late Tommy Vance's narration was an influence on the guy who does trailers for E4 - I kept expecting him to say 'And coming up, My Name Is Earl in which Earl remixes Calling All Stations...'

The voiceover on the subsequent ELP tour documentary sounded like a hybrid of the typical action movie voiceover ('From the people who brought you...') and Joe Friday ('My name's Joe Friday, I'm a cop...')

Oh, and wasn't it funny how the Beeb did more to publicize the 50th anniversary of Motown over radio and TV? They had Martin Freeman (who was nowhere as good as Stuart Maconie would have been in that role) presenting a Culture Show segment on the label, as well as numerous documentaries over December and January.
I doubt it that they would have sent David Baddiel or Jeremy Clarkson to where, say, ye olde Genesis recorded The Lamb, or sent Steve Coogan to interview Rush! By the way, the Dave channel repeated the Saxondale episode with the 'Hemispheres' cock-up recently!
