In a news letter received from Dave Cousins of the Strawbs he states that there is a piece of " proposed legislation" that he believes will adversely affect live music in the UK. It appears that the government wish to introduce laws insisting anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment license must have a noise control device fitted to the venue. Many promoters and bands believe this will be the final NAIL in the coffin for live music entertainment in the UK, as the level at which these devices off is dreadfully low. Someone has organised a petition on the Government Petition Site. And we urge all fans of live-music to sign it (it's for British citizens only). Not only will this law affect musicians but the whole musical instrument industry, fans, venues....... Please spread the word and get everyone you know who loves live music to think about these issues and if they agree that this could could adversely affect live music, as Dave Cousins and others do, then, sign the petition. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION VIA THIS LINK: petitions.number10.gov.uk/NoNoiseControl/ Submitted by Warren James of Musician – Deadline to sign up by: 23 January 2009 – Signatures: 61,466

The Robin 2 venue ( Wolves) comments on the Noise Legislation NOISE LIMITERS It has been brought to our attention that new noise legislation is about to be introduced that is likely to virtually destroy live music in the UK. The government wish to consider it a legal requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws insisting anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment licence must have a noise control device fitted to the venue. In our experience any venue that has one in use cannot have any electric music as the power is constantly being cut mid-song - and even loud applause at the end of a song can cut it.Venues are suffering enough as it is without being forced to go to the expense of fitting one of these damned things. This will be the final nail in the coffin for pretty much ALL entertainment in the UK as the level at which these devices cut the power off is ridiculously low. Noise limiters are a menace to live music and we expect this is the bright idea of some unelected suit in Brussels that's never been to a gig in their life. Please sign the petition! PLEASE DO NOT INTRODUCE THIS LAW, WE LOVE LIVE MUSIC! PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION HERE: petitions.number10.gov.uk/NoNoiseControl/ NOTE: WE HAVE UNTIL 23rd JANUARY TO SIGN THE PETITION!!!!
