SYNOPSIS
"Heartwarming and heartbreaking tale about 'the world's worst dog', based on John Grogan's best-selling memoir.
John (Owen Wilson) and Jenny Grogan (Jennifer Aniston) are smitten newlyweds working for rival newspapers in West Palm Beach, Florida. When the topic of children is raised, John confesses to his friend Sebastian (Eric Dane) that he might not be altogether prepared, so Sebastian suggests buying Jenny a puppy instead. And along comes Marley, a desperately cute yellow Labrador plucked from an equally adorable litter. Problem is, puppies turn into dogs, and soon Marley is transforming the Grogan home into a war zone as he fails obedience classes, chews the sofa, eats expensive jewellery, rifles through the dustbins, steals the Thanksgiving turkey and drinks the toilet water among other misdemeanours. But as the Grogans change jobs, move houses and welcome new arrivals into the world, Marley is permanently by their side, bringing out the best in them..."
Director: David Frankel
Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Eric Dane
Saw this last Monday evening, and altho it is *so* not my kind of film, it was ok! I don't normally touch 'rom com shite' as I call it with a barge pole, altho I did watch one last year ;D The puppies are cute, the dog is quite funny and the film is *very* sad at the end - if you've ever had to say goodbye to a much loved pet you'll be bawling yer mince pies out! Even a hard hearted bintie such as moi was quite moved There was a lot of sniffing going on in the cinema that's for sure! A bit overlong I thought, could've done with shaving 20-30 mins off the length IMHO
It wouldn't be among my fave films but I think that's cos I'm not a fan of the genre. Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson were very good in the roles. It's a bit sickly sweet but hey, I can cope with that once a year ;D
Must go and see something violent/bloodthirsty/psychologically thrilling again soon! That's much more my style ;D
