Didn’t find out til the first band hit the stage that Rockstar had actually cancelled their set due to the singer been ill! So Big Guns extended their set and Seven Dayz did a Headline set . Obviously an opportunity to see Seven Dayz do a headline set pleased me no end. Unfortunately I think the vast majority of people in attendance weren’t interested in seeing an original band, obviously they had paid to see a covers band, and this made the atmosphere at The Robin very lacklustre and quiet. Seven Dayz did put quite a few covers in their set , but I think a lot of them were not mainstream enough for most. I think most people were expecting things along the line of Guns N Roses / Buckcherry / Velvet Revolver and bands of that ilk.
The sound as it usually is at The Robin was very good and Seven Dayz performed well, had this been a support slot for say FM, I think the band would have gone down really well with their performance. I was more interested in the original Seven Dayz songs as opposed to the covers, some worked some didn’t, their version of Anastasia’s “Left Outside Alone” I think worked particularly well for the band, and I’m not a fan of the original! They bunged in covers by Journey , Tyketto , “Play That Funky Music” and “Heard It through The Grapevine”. Their covers of Hardline’s “Hot Cherie” & Whitesnakes “Still Of The night” I think also worked really well for the band!
The band played most of their original stuff to start their set, and played quite a few songs that are to be on the new album. I think they should have started with “Signs” as I think that made a bigger impact , “Natural” , “Say You Will“ & “Feels So Good” I think were played really well and an AOR crowd would have lapped them up! They played a song called “Screaming” ( I think, didn’t catch the introduction properly!) which showed a heavier edge to the band, whilst still retaining a melodic sound & big chorus! I was most taken with the AOR-tastic “Honestly”, which blew me away definitely one of the best songs I’ve heard by Seven Dayz and I’m sure will be popular with AOR fans once the album is released. If the guys are playing near you they are definitely worth checking out, I may be in the minority of most the crowd last night, but I thought the guys played well and I enjoyed their set!
