The run down for Z Rock 09 0 by Rob Evans [Powerplay Magazine]
Here’s a rundown of this years Z Rock weekend that takes place in Dudley on the 29th and 30th of May. I have to say that this weekend is probably the best that Mark has ever assembled. To stay away from this event would be foolish. The fact that Wig Wam and John Waite are headliners should be more than enough to convince anyone to attend. Chuck in the fact that the cream of British AOR is also in attendance then you have a sure-fire winner. I personally will look forward to seeing the likes of Wig Wam, Stampede, John Waite, Lec Zorn, Newman, Dan Reed and Eden. I salute you Mr Alger and can’t wait until the show. Until then here’s the rundown for each day.
RUNNING ORDER FOR MAY 29TH
We are proud to unveil the running order for this year’s main day, the event will run as follows
Friday MAY 29th: Venue: JB's, Dudley [food will be available inside the venue]
Doors 6:PM
06:45 - 7:25 - ANGELHOUSE. An unknown quantity as far as I’m concerned but that doesn’t mean that they’ll be no good, no sir! If TSM and Mr. Alger believe in them then that’s good enough for me.
07:45 - 8:25 - REDLINE. Saw these at last years Z Rock In Birmingham and came away impressed. Their Judas Priest meets Marshall Law style of metal should go down well.
08:45 - 9:40 - STAMPEDE. Some would cruelly say that this is the only time you’ll see a stampede at a Z Rock, but not me, oh no! Seriously, I am so looking forward to seeing this band for the first time. With both of their albums having been reissued in the last few years the time is right for the Stampede revival.
10:00 - 10:55 - STEVE GRIMMETT. Mr Grimmett never fails to impress me every time I see him perform. He’s sure to play a good selection of solo material as well as a few Grim Reaper tracks as well. See you in hell, my friends.
11:15 - 1:00 - WIG WAM. Wig Wam! What is there to say about this phenomenal band that hasn’t already been said? I’ll just add they they are one of the most exciting bands to emerge on the Hard Rock scene in the last few years. The last couple of times I saw them they blew me away and I expect nothing less from them this time.
Tickets are still available online at www.myspace.com/zrockfest or by paypal via zonlinesales@zrecords.net for £30.00 + £1 recorded mail [please remember to include your address and details re your order] or call 07818 258294 for mail-order details [mon - fri 9 - 7 / sat 10- 12]
RUNNING ORDER FOR MAY 30TH
We are proud to unveil the running order for this year’s main day, the event will run as follows
Saturday MAY 30th: Venue: JB's, Dudley [food will be available inside the venue]
Doors 12:30
01:00 - 1:45 - CORNERSTONE. Another TSM artist and one that has been gathering plenty of good press over the last few months thanks to a strong debut album. A good opening to the days proceedings.
02:05 - 2.55 - LEC ZORN PROJECT. If Lec Zorn is half as good live as his album then he’ll blow people away with his brand of pomp rock. The big question is will he be bringing Tracy White (Shotgun Symphony) as his vocalist? Let’s bloody hope so.
03:15 - 4:05 - H.A.R.D. Hungarian hard rock at its finest and another great addition to the festival.
04:25 - 5:25 - NEWMAN. Steve Newman has a lot to prove with this show. It’s his first live outing for a few years and with the right song selection it could be his best ever. Here’s hoping.
05:45 - 6:45 - EDEN. Another solid British band who have delivered on both of their albums. Their live show sees them take their songs to another level. I gaurantee that they will surprise many on this day.
07:00 - 8:00 - DAN REED. Dan Reed will be performing an acoustic show that will comprise of old Network songs and newer Dan reed material. With him getting rave reviews of his British tour of last year he will definitely be one to watch.
08:20 - 9:20 - VON GROOVE. Von Groove gave me one of my best ever concert experiences when they played at Z Rock the first time many moons ago. I’m hoping that they repeat that experience with this show. They have the songs and the capability. Let’s hope they put the two together and blow us away.
09:40 -10: 50 - TED POLEY. If Bob Catley is the UK’s peoples frontman then Ted would have to be his US equivalent. I have no doubt that Ted and Vic will give 1000% and make this a show to remember. Sure to be one of the highlights of the whole weekend.
11:10 - 00:45 - JOHN WAITE. This, my friends, will be awesome and then some. John Waite in the UK for the first time since the eighties. With such a rich back catalogue to choose from, John Waite has the potential to be absolutely mind-blowing. I personally would love to see plenty of Bad Englsih songs, a sprinkling of Babys and a liberal amount of solo material. Please!
