i was very lucky today to have a quick preview listen to the new Tara's Secret album & its a fookin beast of an album!
I was very nervous about hearing it, as i know the guys have wanted to modernise their sound and be a musically relevent band in 2009, so i was expecting something along the lines of Shinedown, boy was i wrong....
Yes it is modern with a fantastic production, and i know the guys hate been pigeon holed, but this is Melodic Hard Rock 2009 style! It is heavier than anything they have ever done before and it is a thousand times better than "Tomorrow The World" (and i love that album!) but they have retained the huge melodies and big chrouses that make a great melodic rock band! a lot of bands who modernise sacrifice a lot of melody and clear guitar's for power and aggression, not so here, they have taken everything i personally love about melodic rock / AOR and made it relevent to the here and now! NO AOR by numbers here....
Their is quite a few influences evident on the album, with everything from Survivor to Rainbow to Poison coming to mind, so it'll definitley appeal to people who like classic rock and melodic rock BUT most importantly i think the sound of the album breaks a lot of barriers and will appeal to fans of modern rock and i think this album will genuinely shock a few people including established TS fans, i know i was blown away by just how good the album has turned out. "Mystery Female Vocalist" guest apperance left me slack jawed aswell, boy can she sing & some of the guitar solo's are out of this world!
I only got to listen to it through once, but their isn't a duff track on there and its a fantastic upbeat rock album with a great summery feel and i sure as shit can't wait to buy the album when it comes out! I'm sure this will be in many peoples lists of favourite albums of the year, the only album i can think of that may give it a challenge for me is possibly the new Gotthard and even then they need to be on top their game to beat this monster!
I know all the guys have poured a lot of heart and soul into this album and it does come across, musicianship wise the guys have stepped it up a level with some great guitar work and excellent melodic solos, the new rhythm section (JT and Dave) have added some really power to the bands sound & help give it that harder sound! and johnny's voice is top notch and is even better than on TTW! but i suppose most importantly they have assembled a collection of highly memorable, exciting , rockin', sing-a-longable top quality songs!
I'm sure this album will be massive, it definitley deserves to be massive...
Massive Thanks to Johnny, Craig, Richie , JT & Dave for allowing me to have a quick preview, its a fanatstic album and all the praise that comes to you when the album comes out is well deserved for all the effort & passion you've put into creating this amazing rock album!
