Hi Paul - hope you weren't too riled at Mike Pickering of M-People slating Barclay James Harvest for 'not writing about their upbringing' (quoted off the Factory Records documentqary which BBC-4 repeated last week)!

Hi Sistermoon,
To be honest, a cheap shot at any prog/pomp rock band seems to be the 'in thing' again at the moment...
Could it be a bit of jealousy as bands such as the one making the comments are a fast fading distant memory and prog seems to at least holding its own again, if not quite taking the world by storm?
Prog Controversial Paul ;D

Personally, Sister Moon, the day the mainstream media start liking our kind of music I will be worried, because it would mean our bands have either sold out and/or dumbed down. The success of these legendary bands were, as we all know, because of their album sales, driven by superb live performances and musicianship, not their pop-pap 3 minute singles, videos or err fashion-sense. The media are stuck in a rut of trotting out the usual cliches but youngsters are starting to decide for themselves rather than trust the media. Bands are picking up influences from these in their music and taking the inspiration in a more compact but none-the-less imaginative way. Thanks to radio station like this, myspace and the broader minded venues and publications, people are better able to hear the music than ever before.

And then Ashley Franklin quoted Rat Scabies in Classic Rock Presents Prog, doing bands such as Genesis down for public school backgrounds!
I see Mojo had a Mike Oldfield interview this month - a couple of months after CRPP did something similar! The bit about Oldfield's trembling knee making the guitar hard to hold (in the first onset of stagefright) made me smile because my brother and me were prone to that when nervous.
