Hi All,
The other weekend Steve mentioned my discovery that a number of my early Now & Then CDs had the dreaded CD Bronzing / CD Rot ( see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_Bronzing ).
Well I've been assessing the damage in my collection & trying to rescue what I can.
The discs that are affected are ones manufactured in the UK by PDO, this affects Now & Then CDs NTHEN 1 to NTHEN 13 ( also includes Tamplin CD CHIKK001 ).
NTHEN 1 Gary Hughes - CD Plays but cannot be accurately ripped & some audio defects towards the end . I do have the re-issues plus the Japanese version of the album so no lost songs.
NTHEN 2 Mark Free - Whole CD suffers from very noticeable audio defects, disk plays but cannot be copied . Again have the 1998 re-issue.
NTHEN 3 Cannata - CD Plays but cannot be accurately ripped & some audio defects towards the end . Have managed to get another copy cheap which does accurately rip ( have Nero imaged it, EAC imaged it, & Winamp ripped to FLAC ).
NTHEN 4 Shotgun Symphony - CD Plays but cannot be accurately ripped & some audio defects towards the middle & end . Have bought a copy of the re-issue & waiting for that to arrive.
NTHEN 5 The Quest - CD Plays but cannot be accurately ripped & some audio defects towards the end . Bought another copy ( ex-library copy ) which does accurately rip ( have Nero imaged it, EAC imaged it, & Winamp ripped to FLAC ). New copy is showing early signs of rot though .
NTHEN 6 Jeff Paris - CD Plays but cannot be accurately ripped & some audio defects towards the middle & end . Bought another copy which does accurately rip ( have Nero imaged it, EAC imaged it, & Winamp ripped to FLAC ). New copy is showing early signs of rot though .
NTHEN 7 Takara - CD Plays but cannot be accurately ripped & some audio defects towards the middle & end . Bought another copy which does accurately rip ( have Nero imaged it, EAC imaged it, & Winamp ripped to FLAC ). New copy is showing early signs of rot though .
The remaining CDs all seem fine ( have Nero imaged, EAC imaged, & Winamp ripped to FLAC ) so far, but will now check regularly for signs of rot.
Hopefully other Now & Then fans have not been so badly affected ??
Regards
