My sister lent me the book. I've not seen the film, but I guess the character of Emma Morley is nothing like the thin and immaculately made up Anne Hathaway who portrayed the character in the film! I love the name of the theatre in education organisation she's in at the start - Sledgehammer Theatre Group! I have worked in a similar capacity so I understand her troubles with the bitter old hasbeen on the team and the airy-fairy luvvie girl.
She seems to be looking for a proper calling through the years the book spans, while the man she's on and off with, Dexter Mayhew (NOT a drumming detective who murders the bad guys) seems to be based on how Chris Evans and Jonathan Ross moved from youth TV to mainstream sort of acceptance. He's seemingly successful but not as a family person.
