Here is a link to the Ferry Rock Night, this time it was a very special and in some ways a sad one.

Anybody who lives in Brough will ( or should do) know that The Ferry Inn has been part of the scene for the last 300 years or so ...well now 3 million pounds ( Yes that's 3,000,000) to the brewery who own it has decreed that it would make a better block of flats!!
I feel angry that a place with History is going to be turned over to people who actually won't give a toss about Brough, about it's history or indeed the history of the Ferry INn itself...seems rural life is becoming a product of bygone days, and that keeping treasures such as the ferry, Even Dick Turpin Used the place!

Dick Turpin, now calling himself John Palmer, crossed from Brough to Winteringham very many times on the ferry. It is equally as likely that he would sometimes have to wait at one of Winteringham’s village inns for the tides and weather to be right for crossing back to Brough. And it was in Brough that he sealed his fate in October 1738 when he shot his landlord’s cockerel, being reported to the magistrate, who with some diligent detective work discovered his horse stealing. The magistrate saw to it that he was taken to York as a prisoner and eventually hanged, not for murder, nor for being a highwayman ... but for stealing horses!
1738 ladies and gentleman that gives you an Idea how long the ferry has stood there..at least! and now someone wants to put flats there!!
If you know the ferry, you live in the area, or you just feel that wiping away the History of the East RIding in general is wrong please help to block this application, write to the brewery and voice your concern too...or even take a ride out to the ferry and sign the petition to stop the Inn that Dick Turpins Frequented regularly being turned into more UNAFFORDABLE HOUSING...
Please help Save The Ferry
Thank you
