do you mean what was my preferred choice or what we had to put up with on the tv and radio? Given free choice it was rock and metal all the way. Maiden were number one choice for me back in the early 80s. Then I "discovered" KISS and Great White around '87 and loved em. The tv gave us The Tube which was ok - it wasnt all poppy rubbish. And other music shows such as The Roxy and ECT were short lived rivals to TOTP. Radio One was still the nations top choice radio station and The Friday Rock Show was a saviour. Tommy was a Rock Icon for me and millions of other rock and metal fans.
But the rubbish we had to endure via the mediums of tv and radio gave us such unforgettable dross as: Curiosity Killed The Cat Blancmange (Living On The Ceiling - remember that?) The Associates (The Party Fears Two) Joe Boxers (Boxer Beat) Bronski Beat - arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
and my home city of Hull was entirely to blame for unleashing The Housemartins (The Beautiful South as they are now) - and I apologise for this though it was not my fault, had I known of their existence I would have shot them all before they got (in)famous. We are also to blame for Roland Gift from the abysmal Fine Young Cannibals. Indeed both Gift and the Housemartins came from the same area of Hull (not far from the Welly Club actually).

What about Ultravox? Midge Ure is still gigging and as wonderful as ever!! We saw him a couple of years ago at the Assembly Rooms, Derby, guess who was supporting him too what a fantastic evening that was ;D I also bought Howard Jones' new album last year, he plays mainly in the States nowadays. His guitarist is Robin Boult (aka The itch/ JYB guitar player!)
