It is a shame, albeit not surprising I am afraid.
PR could have been a great station but the running costs of being on DAB and Sky as out of this world and GCap reckon by closing PR and theJazz they can save £9m!
PR have been pretty poor at selling advertising and pretty good at paying silly money for presenters (trust me, Alice Cooper's show is not cheap - we were offered it 3 years ago and I laughed when I was told the hourly rate, more than many of us earn in a month)
With The Arrow recently sacking all but one of their presenters it does not bode well for Classic Rock on Sky & DAB

Yes, according to the news, GCap have said that FM and internet radio is the way to go. PR could have been very good with a little tweaking, but gawd it was boring!! They played the same stuff day in day out and really, Alice Cooper's show was the only decent thing on there.

Alice Cooper's show was the only decent thing on there. That and Mr Wakeman (bends down touches forelock!).. well OK I'm biased... (and a little bit bitter and twisted!!)... Oh and some of the adverts were quite funny! Ahh well, maybe if they'd listened to some folks who tried, ever so nicely, to tell 'em that "Classic Rock didn't end in 1974" they'd have made a go of it... Oh and they only made 5.6 million in proffit... agggghhhh, give ARfm the .6 and we'll show 'em how it should be done! Ta ta. Paul

Paul I'm afraid I lost a lot of respect for Mr Wakeman as a "Rock DJ" when, after playing a track he said "....er....that was er...Rainbow In The Dark by...er....Dio.....um....not sure if they've done anything else...." What?

Big Budget & Big name presenters are the only reason it lasted so long i think, once i discovered ARFm i never listened to Planet Rock again, I don`t think i EVER heard them play anything new , it won`t be missed by me

There were a couple of critical letters in the Classic Rock Society Magazine, asking why Rick didn't champion the new music more. His reply was quite enlightening, basically he wasn't allowed to, which is a shame. I agree with LJC's comment as well, I certainly won't miss PR and those listeners have got to get there rock fix somewhere, so it might as well be on ARfm!! ;D Cheers Paul

He could champion as much new music as he bloody liked here!!

Well that is a surprise, so the mainstream having tried to at least attempt to play some album-rock, gets taken out by market forces. Just shows you how difficult it is even when you broadcast on DAB!
I shall be telling those I know listened to Planet Rock, to: "Dry your tears and get your ears" "Listening to ARfm on-line, each time" "They want quality rock around the clock"

I agree with you about the Groundhog Day nature of the playlists. Rick Wakeman and Alice Cooper were fine as presenters, but the choice of music on PR could be as stuck in the same songs as Real Radio at times.

Well with all these 'superstar' presenters out of a job, what do you think the chances are of them joining forces and putting some of their ridiculous wages together to launch a proper rock station... We'd help 'em.. if they'd listen... Ok, I'll get my coat.... Off to think up some more awful puns for the end of Soundscapes!! Ta ta. Paul
