It seems that we Cheshire-ites may be getting yet anpother live music venue ;D
Chris McGarrigle, one of the organisers of the local Jazz and Blues Festival, and the Great Britain Acoustic festival at nearby Nantwich, is proposing to convert an old ballroom called The Majestic, which in 1962 played host to an up and coming band called The Beatles. The building, in High Street, Crewe, has more recently been used as a cinema and bingo hall. It is the intention to open Wednesday to Saturday, concentrating on up and coming original bands on week nights with more established acts headlining weekends.
If the planning application is successful it should be up and running by the end of this year!

Hmm.....but folks are saying locally that there isn't enough trade for two music venues and that this new one will be taking trade from The Limelight. Personally, I think the new place, because of where it is situated, will cater for the uni/college/indie crowd whereas The Limelight caters more for rockers of a "certain age" if you get my drift! The new place can only operate on the present site for about three years because the site is earmarked for "development" then (shops, appartments, offices etc) The owner reckoned he'd be open by the end of the year....but haven't heard any more
