My mentor.
I had the pleasure of speaking to him by phone a few years ago and I watched him walk onstage at The Royal Albert Hall in a Monk's Habit to introduce Vangelis but sadly never got to meet him.
Alan had the great fortune to play the music he loved; rock, pop and those terrific classic soundbites to divide them up with and you could tell he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The iceing on the cake? He got paid for it as well... not 'arf mate... alright?

Alan Freeman was my DJ hero too Shane, followed by Tommy Vance.
I still have some tapes of his late night Virgin Radio shows, I used to listen to them without fail he gave so much pleasure over the airwaves.
He is one of the DJs I really wish I'd had the chance to meet and shake his hand and say thanks.
The last I heard his shows was on Virgin, and he played a request for me.
Not only did he introduce me to a host of gems from the past like Caravan (Golf girl etc), but he also played the new up and coming rare stuff like Pendragon, IQ, Spock's Beard and Jadis.
I salute him. If there is a heaven, he's up there getting them angels rockin' right now!

Another part of my youth gone.
But Fluff has inspired other presenters to take up the post of bringing new music to listeners, which is great.
